Intel Kick-Off
Monday, November 12th, 2007Last Tuesday saw the kick-off of a Intel-sponsored workshop at CIID, exploring a brief relating to ‘future experiences of computing in and around the home’.
We launched the project at the CIID studio in Copenhagen with a day filled with Intel presentations and demos. We were privileged to have no less than 6 Intel people fly in from their offices in Oregon and California: Ashley McCorkle and Sandhi Bhide from Mobile’s Strategic Planning Group, Wendy March from PaPR, Horst Haussecker from CTG and the Glen Ellyn team, Kieran Del Pasqua from UCD, and Jay Melican from the Digital Home’s User Experience Group. Toward the end of the day, Suzanne Thomas from EMPG joined us by phone to present some relevant findings for her team’s research. The CIID design team spent the rest of the week sorting through all they had heard from their Intel guests and working up concepts for the mid-way presentation which will happen later today.
Jay Melican said: ‘It’s been an unbelievably productive first few days. It’s pretty amazing what a team of creative, hard-working folks can accomplish when they devote their entire day — day after day — and all their energy to tackling a single problem.’
Daria Loi, also from the Digital Home’s User Experience Group, arrived on the weekend ready to work with the CIID designers on concept development throughout the second week of the project. The team is complemented by 3 visiting design researchers: David A. Mellis, James Tichenor and Chris Hand.
